What Does Facebook New Change to Meta Really Mean

Facebook New Name Meta

Facebook founded by Mark Zukerbeg in 2004 has now changed its company name to Meta. Over the years since inception, Facebook has introduced Messenger, acquired Instagram, Whatsapp and Oculus and also introduced Facebook workplace, Portal and Portal plus. The company went on to announce Novi before conversations of a name switch from Facebook  began.

Having become familiar and well accustomed to the name Facebook as well as the logo which stands out with its blue and white color and the single letter 'F', a lot of users are skeptical as to how truly this change would affect their usage.

What Does Facebook New Change to Meta Really Mean

In the companies connect event, Mark Zukerbeg announced the companies name change where he said

“We are a company that builds technology to connect,” Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”
“To reflect who we are and what we hope to build,” he added. He said the name Facebook doesn’t fully encompass everything the company does now, and is still closely linked to one product. “But over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company.”

This new change however, does not mean the Facebook app itself would change. It just means the company name changes to Meta. Therefore, the Facebook app logo, and functionalities remains as is with advertising tools, market place function as well as other user interfaces remaining the same.
This rebranding was done in order to broaden the scope of all the services the company offers including virtual reality amongst others.
